Expanding your spirit brand into North Carolina? Discover the 4 essential steps to becoming an approved supplier and how Dorado Rock LLC simplifies the ABC Commission registration process.

The NC ABC Commission logo and state seal

Expanding your spirit brand into North Carolina is a strategic move, but the "Control State" model requires a precise roadmap. At Dorado Rock LLC, we specialize in bridging the gap between world-class distillers and the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Commission.

As a premier spirits brokerage, our mission is simple: we represent your craft. From navigating the initial regulatory filings to managing your SKUs in the state warehouse, Dorado Rock acts as your boots-on-the-ground partner to ensure your product moves from the distillery to the shelf.

The Road to Approval: 4 Essential Steps for New Suppliers

Before you can ship a single bottle into the state ABC warehouse, every new company must complete the following regulatory requirements.

1. Appoint a North Carolina Registered Agent

Every out-of-state supplier is required to maintain a registered agent with a physical office in North Carolina. This ensures a legal point of contact within the state.

2. Your Federal TTB Permits

You must provide a Federal Basic Permit from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB). This must clearly show your company name and address as either an Importer or Distilled Spirits Plant (DSP), depending on your operation.

3. Register with the NC Secretary of State

To transact business in North Carolina, out-of-state suppliers must register as a Foreign Entity and receive a Certificate of Authority.

4. Submit Your ABC Commission Application

Once your corporate paperwork is in order, you must submit your formal application packet to the NC ABC Commission. This packet must include your Application for Supplier/Distiller Permit, your Certificate of Authority (COA), your Federal Basic Permit, Remittance mailing address and ACH information, and email addresses for Special Orders.

How Dorado Rock LLC Simplifies the Process

Registering your company is only the first half of the battle. The second half is SKU Registration. The state requires specific data to register your products, including:

  • Product Name
  • Bottle Code (UPC) and Case Code (SCC-14)
  • Case Dimension
  • Pricing

When you partner with Dorado Rock LLC, we handle the heavy lifting of SKU registration and state warehouse coordination. Using our online portal, we ensure your pricing is competitive and your documentation is flawless, so you can focus on what you do best, making great spirits.
